So, things remain as up in the air as they possibly could but Soos and his graffiti team are moving into the space THIS Saturday afternoon (March 1st) and I figure we make the whole day into the ‘De-Face’ party day. Looks like we’ll have no electricity anyway so the day light will help. Bring your paint brushes and lets create our final ode to the 798 Red T Space.

The ‘De-Face’ will begin this Saturday with graffiti artists coming in after lunch and any passers by encouraged to participate. The big party should happen next Saturday (March 8th). However, as this nightmare continues to develop, timing is more and more uncertain and it seems we are surrounded by crooks. There is so much deceit and story spinning going on around this that I am desperate just to leave, in Red T style , and not turn back. But… of course, it is not that simple. This is actually news very worth broadcasting because for those who know Chinese contemporary art will know that gaudy art has dominated over the last 10ish years and through media exposure and international interest, influenced much of what we think of as ‘Contemporary Chinese Art’. Although this is more blatantly associated with paintings, it is also applicable to photography.

798 Red T Space is the first gallery in Beijing to be invited by a 5 Star hotel to open an exhibition space in their lobby area.The new JW Marriott Hotel opened in Beijing’s Hua Mao area in November last year and is marketing itself as an art hotel. A theme which makes it stand out in the current climate of luxury options in China’s capital, it also helps to directly target the young, affluent, culturally aware professionals of Beijing.

Already in its third year, Affordable Art Beijing returns on April 25th - 27th 2008 at the prestigious 798 Space in Beijing’s Dashanzi art district.Affordable Art Beijing is a short term, high impact exhibition and event designed to help young artists gain public attention. Something Red T.art was a co-founder of, with Time Out Beijing.
Over the past two years AAB (formerly AAF - Affordable Art Fair) has established itself as a popular, worthwhile, great value venture both for our sponsors, our clients and the public. AAB 2008 will be broader in scope than the previous two years and will incorporate elements of design, photography, sculpture and painting. For the first time, international participants will be invited to join AAB.
